Summary:Written dialogue has two parts: the source words and the quotation. Source words identify the speaker and are set apart by commas. Quotations, the speaker's exact words, are surrounded by quotation marks. Students practice placing quotation marks, commas, and end marks in dialogue with source words first, source words last, and source words splitting the quotation.
