Chromebooks and Mimio Files

Can our Chromebooks have the MimioStudio software loaded onto them?

Antwoord:

Great question and thank you for your submission to MimioConnect. Chromebooks can't download the software to their device but do connect to MimioMobile through the web at this address: http://mobile.mimio.com. Once you get to the web address, you will see the options available to you for connecting. Here are the instructions to get you up and running with a Chromebook:
1. Open a lesson on your computer, not the Chromebook.
2. On the Chromebook, go to http://mobile.mimio.com
3.Now, inside the lesson page. Go to Tools>Settings>Mobile.
4. You'll see "Connection Information." You want to make sure that your information is the same on the Chromebook for IP Address, Port (use second number for Web), and input access code. Now,when you are looking at the Chromebook, click on TEACHER so it is in blue, and click on MANUAL for Connection methods. Here is where you can match up the IP Address, Port, and Access code. Once they are inputted correctly, click on "Connect."
5.Your lesson page should now be mirrored on your Chromebook.
You can connect every mobile device in the classroom with the purchase of just one annual MimioMobile license. Details on how to purchase the annual license can be found on http://www.mimio.com/en-NA/Products/MimioMobile-Application.aspx. Without the license, you are allowed up to 3 devices to connect at a time. As always, if you get a chance, check out the many tips and suggestions offered in our Ask a Master section!

Cloned Objects

afbeelding van Tracy Tishion

I've downloaded a lesson off of MimioConnect and one of the pages has several objects with a blue line around them. How do I get rid of the line?

Antwoord:

Thank you for your question and finding a lesson that you were interested in. That blue line signifies that the object it surrounds has been set up for infinite cloning. If you don't want the ability to clone the object, then just right click on the object and choose clone. This should erase the blue line. As always, if you get a chance check out the many other tips and suggestions found in MimioConnect's Ask a Master!

New Year Resolutions for Students

afbeelding van Tracy Tishion

I'm looking for lessons on New Year resolutions to do with my students when we return from vacation. Do you know of any interactive lessons or other places where I might find simple resources- writing or simple activities for upper elementary grades?

Antwoord:

The new year will be here before we know it and what a great idea to get your students off to the right start with some new year's goals or resolutions. There aren't any specific lessons that I could find that are specific to your grade level. I do have a suggestion though which will pull up some great suggestions. Go to google and type in "new year resolution for school students printable," then click on "Images." Once you've done this, it will pull up a plethora of visuals/worksheets with MANY resolution ideas which can easily be adapted to meet whatever your needs may be. You can create your on Mimio lessons based on the content that you reviewed off of the search. In addition, if you search ALL results, you will come up with many websites which address new year's resolutions. If these don't pan out, you can do a google advanced search (www.google.com/advanced_search. Here you can type the same search parameters but this time you can specify the file type such as PDF or even a PowerPoint. Hope these tips and suggestions help. Happy new year and happy hunting!

Calibration Issues

afbeelding van Tracy Tishion

My calibration seems to be off. When I start up in the morning and touch the stylus to the board a line is drawn about 12 to 15 inches away. Why is the calibration off? Do I need to go through setting the calibration every time I turn on the projector? My projector is a ceiling mounted one, so I don't believe that it moves around daily.

Antwoord:

Good question and one that can have a few solutions. In some cases there can be papers or objects that overhang onto the projected area on the board which can obstruct the line of sensing from the MimioTeach bar to the stylus. Make sure that you have a clean, unobstructed projected board area. One way to set the calibration on your board (so you don't need to do it each time) is to use a "previous calibration" (if you have your projector and your MimioTeach in a fixed location). Here are the steps to do this:
1. Open your MimioStudio Notebook

2. Click on Tools > Settings

3. Next click on Interactive and then check the box for use previous calibration
This will eliminate having to repeatedly do calibrations.

How to Obtain the MimioMobile App

afbeelding van Tracy Tishion

I can't seem to find the location of where to download the MimioMobile app.

Antwoord:

The MimioMobile app can be found in the iTunes and Google Play stores. The app is free and can be downloaded to as many devices as you need. To be able to use the MimioMobile app on a device in the classroom, MimioStudio 11 must be installed and the MimioMobile license for the classroom must be purchased and activated. This would allow for every student with a compatible device to interact with the teacher lesson displayed on the whiteboard. A single classroom license can be purchased (or a school could purchase a school-wide license which would allow the use of the MimioMobile app in multiple classrooms.) Enjoy collaborating with your students! As always, if you get the time, peruse the many tips and suggestions found on MimioConnect's Ask a Master.

Creating Seating Charts

afbeelding van Tracy Tishion

I found a seating chart in the 2019 back to school gallery pack. I'd like to use it but am having difficulty manipulating the chairs and names on the page and don't fully understand the pullout instructions. Please advise.

Antwoord:

Good question and here are a few suggestions. There are 2 seating charts to choose from, one that is already arranged in a classroom setting and the second can be set up to reflect your needs. In your case, I suggest using the second one, unless you have your classroom set up similar to the the first one. The pull out instructions say to double click on the word"name" then change it to one of your students' names. Now "select" both the name and the desk by using the "shift" key to select the second item (either the name or desk). Once they've both been selected (with 2 editing boxes visible), go to Format>Grouping>Group. This will make them 1 object. Continue doing the same as you go through your class list. Once completed, you can give the chart a name, save it as a PDF and print off a copy. As always, should you get the chance, peruse the many tips and suggestions that can be found in the Ask a Master section of MimioConnect.

Creating mini tutorials using Mimio

afbeelding van Tracy Tishion

Can I use my MimioStudio software to create a tutorial for my lesson that needs a step by step visual?

Antwoord:

Absolutely! Whether you need to explain a math problem, science equation, conjugate a verb or simply show a concept visually, MimioStudio allows you to do it simply and effortlessly. The MimioStudio software comes equipped with a recorder located in the toolbar under applications. Once it is accessed, you have three options on recording: entire desktop, window, or a specific area. The video is saved as an .AVI file and can be played back in a few formats. There are detailed instructions which can be found in Chapter 10 of the MimioStudio user's guide. It can be accessed by following this link:https://mimio.boxlight.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/MimioClassroom_UG_Win_en.pdf Creating mini tutorials is so important for many students to be able to have that visual extension of whatever might have been taught in class then get reinforced outside of the classroom. It also is a way to explain to students who might have been absent from class what to do to with regards to a classroom lesson. In the past I have even created a worksheet for the student to complete, that compliments the concepts of the tutorial similar to taking notes in class. Have a fun time creating some mini tutorials for those concepts that could use a little clarity in your own words and description instead of having your students searching the Internet for explanation.

Summer Storage Tips

afbeelding van Tracy Tishion

I just wanted to know if there is any special precautions I need to take with my equipment over the summer?

Antwoord:

Good question! Each school district may have different protocols for how the equipment should be stored over the summer: in a central location or in your classroom or even keeping it up if it's not portable. So, my first thought would be is to check with your building tech department or whomever may be the designated administrator of technology. If this isn't the case in your situation and it's up to you to store your own equipment then follow these simple steps:
1. Unplug all equipment.
2. Remove your MimioTeach and store it in a secure location along with the dongle (USB stick).
3. Make sure all batteries are removed from any device because the summer months tend to heat up and those batteries could leak and destroy your equipment.
4. Make sure everything is stored together: cords, devices(MimioCapture, MimioVote, MimioPad, MimioView) pens, etc. because that will make it easier in the Fall for setting up.
5. When the summer is over check your computer/laptop for any software updates that might be available or your technology staff might have done over the summer. There always could be some new features and tips that were released to make your Mimio experience easier and fun while being educational!

Resetting a Page or Ink File after Its Been Annotated

afbeelding van Tracy Tishion

Is there a quick way to delete/erase/reset all the work that's been done on a page in a lesson or even the whole lesson at the end of a class so that it can be used with the next class or the next day?

Antwoord:

Good question! There are a few things that can be done. The easiest is to just close out the lesson WITHOUT re-saving. This way the changes that were done on each page will not be saved and you'll have the original, untouched lesson. Another thing that can be done is to make a copy of the lesson before its been written on (so that you'll have a master or original). You would use the copy. Some teachers work through the same lesson with multiple classes and may not necessarily end at the same point with each class. By saving the lesson after each class (using some sort of class notation in the title) will allow the teacher to open up the lesson to the exact point of wherever they left off. Some teachers also like to have the annotated lessons of all the work that was done in class to be able to save it that particular class website (if they have one) or print it out for students to peruse who may have been absent or may need reinforcement. Give one of these methods a try based on whatever your needs or preferences might be!
