Summary:This is a highly detailed one point perspective lesson. It is designed for a middle school level, but could be adapted for lower or higher grades.
An understanding of one point perspective, horizon line, vanishing point, parallel lines, and proportions should be understood and demonstrated to students. Explain and show examples of Giotto, Leonnardo Davinci and other artists during the Italian Renaissaince who discovered the matematical formulas of one and two point perspective.
Use the examples on the slides and interactive tools to draw on top of the slides, map out vanising points, converging lines and the horizon line. Have students then try this by going up to the white board themselves with the tool.
Use the slides to do a practice drawing of one point perspective first.
Use a note book turned horizontally. Then have studentsmake a final drawing on a 12x 18 drawing paper. All slides are a basic framework and can be used interactively, highlight on them, draw etc. This frees up your drawing time so you can help students rather then drawing tediously by hand at the smae time as them. Also great for special needs kids because you can go back and forth and set the pace.
Each year I have the students choose a theme for their city and even do researcha as well on archtecture or fantasy drawings, or cartoons to help develop themes.
This was a joint project I worked on with my other art teacher Craig B.
We had a lot of fun doing this! There are so many standards for this lesson I will not list them. I know your kids will learn a lot from this, enjoy!
