Summary:The lesson includes two different photocopies of pieces that the students are working on, or are going to be working on, in class. The students have their own copies that they will write on, in addition to various differnet colored crayons. First, the teacher points out any of the major road signs, including repeat signs, Segno, Coda, and D.S. al Coda. Then, the teacher then selects one color to start the piece with and draws through the music with one color, to show where the students should follow. The students follow with that same color on their pages. Whenever the students reach a road sign that causes them to jump to a different section in the song, they mark where to jump to and switch colors. Once the entire piece is completed, the students then listen to a recording of the song, following with their fingers through what they just drew on the page. Once the students are comfortable with the concept, they are encouraged to try the second piece in small groups after the teacher points out all of the major road signs.
The first file includes the blank music pages. The second file includes one page of the teacher completing the lesson with the students, followed by a second page of a student labeling where to follow. You'll notice on my teacher page, there is a scribbled out part. This I did with the students so they could fix any mistakes if they went too far with their crayon.
