Summary:Used in CMP2 Unit, "Samples and Populations" for defining typical numbers for a data set, a 5-number summary consists of a minimum, a lower-quartile, a median, an upper quartile and a maximum. The left whisker corresponds to the minimum, the first line of the box portion is the lower quartile, the median is the middle line inside the box portion, the last line of the box portion is the upper quartile, and the right whisker coresponds to the maximum value. Each section of the box-and-whisker plot holds 25% of the data, making comparisons between data sets easy.
